Beast, Please Be Still

Welcome to BPBS Arts and Media!
Beast, Please be Still behaves primarily as a resource center for folks committed to grassroots methods of expressing, distributing and archiving their artistic endeavors. We engineer and edit short films, videos and field recordings, host local shows, help book tours, produce the annual (recurring) DREAMS film scoring event and BPBS Fest.  We promote artists we are related to, or simply, artists we like and release the occasional cassette or compilation.

Gospel
The BPBS bloodline may be traced to 2001, when members of Datura Blues adopted "Beast, Please be Still" as their Mantra.  The Beast’s infancy was spent in Humboldt County, where it served as host to Datura Blues' more experimental leanings (as a recording project, improvisational ensemble and the opening track on Datura Blues' 2003 album "Master the Tempest is Raging!") After a brief spell in Seattle, a short stint in Austin and decade-long love affair with Portland, Oregon, the Beast has returned to its former hunting grounds behind the Redwood Curtain.

The BPBS Mantra has never been limited to one particular vision, medium, setting or cast of characters. However, over the course of its evolution, the moniker has been interpreted in a number of ways, now representing many things to many folks.  Despite nomadic tendencies and deviation from one mode of operation to the next, the tradition and enduring purpose of Beast, Please be Still is to explore the collective creative interests of Datura Blues and their satellite community, inspired by shared aesthetics and with devotion towards this shipwrecked mankind.
