Oryan Peterson-Jones was born in Arcata, California during a cold November rain... Oryan graduated from Humboldt State University with a degree in Music As A Cultural Metaphor, which has allowed him to travel the globe with purpose; gathering stories, instruments, field recordings, and gems of wit & wisdom. He has been heavily involved in the Pacific-Northwest music scene as a booker, promoter, radio personality, sound engineer, event coordinator, music columnist, and filmmaker. Oryan was recently awarded North Coast Journal's Best Filmmaker in 2020 and 2022, in recognition of the on-site documentary film work accomplished in Senegal, Cuba & Eastern Europe.

Oryan began performing from behind the Redwood Curtain in the late nineties and developed his signature, fast fingerstyle while playing with the 25-year running psych-rock mavens, Datura Blues, outsider folk ensemble, Die Geister Beschwören, and improvisational noise outfit, Beast, Please Be Still. While these groups satisfy a collective effort and engage in more grandiose musical pursuits, Oryan's solo output demonstrates an enthusiasm for his studies in the field of ethnomusicology, with camaraderie towards the New Weird America folk movement and American Primitive tradition.
