BPBS Arts & Media going to Senegal!

In January 2018, Nick Jennings traveled to Senegal...

Within a few days he discovered the country was alive with music. Everywhere he went, local musicians welcomed him into their world with overwhelming hospitality.  Unfortunately, having only a mobile phone with a bad microphone meant a lot of missed opportunities to document his experiences.  What little footage he was able to collect received  positive feedback, including a video of his new friend Salliou playing the Cas Cas that soon went viral (see below.)

Nick was inspired to return with better cameras, audio recording and video equipment, and his enthusiasm did not fall upon deaf ears.  Upon hearing about the project, Oryan Peterson-Jones and Andrew Pritchard from BPBS Arts & Media (who just completed the first of two documentaries about Cuban musicians,) also signed on.

The goal is to document the many amazing musicians that Nick met during his first trip to Senegal, pay them for their performances and put together a high quality music documentary.  In the long run, we hope to establish a platform to not only introduce the music of Senegal to the world but also send funds back to the musicians.
